Learning and Development Opportunities

  • Internship

We partner with your Wesleyan university to work within their framework and expectations to ensure that you will receive the necessary college credit for your time of service. We will also work to make sure that your internship qualifies for any applicable scholarship opportunities from the denomination and/or institution.

Interns will be placed in the area of ministry, to which they feel God is calling them (Children, Youth, Worship, Church Planting).

Approved interns will be provided with a stipend of $1,000 for a summer or $1,500 for a semester based on a partnership between the District and the local church.

This is an intensive summer internship where students are expected to serve an average of 20 hours per week within the ministry context to which they are assigned.

Dates are flexible based on school schedules at individual institutions. Summer internships are based upon a 10 week program.

Summer comes and goes before we know it. Why not do something with your summer break that will help continue to prepare you for the ministry that God is calling you to? Summer internships providing you the opportunity to earn college credit as well as receive invaluable “field” experience for ministry.

Feel like God may be leading you here to plant a church, or to work on staff at a church plant? One of the most exciting things in the Florida District is our church planting network in the North-Tampa area. You could devote your summer towards working alongside our awesome church planters, building Christ’s Kingdom, and exploring what is involved in planting a church. Our network is one-of-a-kind in The Wesleyan Church and would provide you the chance to be a part of the ground-breaking things God is doing in Tampa.

  • Residency

Our residency program is open to college and seminary graduates seeking to fulfill God’s calling on their lives within the Wesleyan Church. Applicants who are accepted will be placed in an approved local, teaching church or church plant where they can further develop their leadership skills in the life of the church and ministry. We will seek to place residents in the area of ministry, to which they feel God leading them (youth ministry, worship ministry, church planting, etc. Residents will be given the opportunity to learn how to translate classroom studies into a “real-world” context within the local church and the community over the course of two years. This will give them the ability to form meaningful relationships, create a lasting impact, and prepare them for the future while satisfying requirements for ordination and loan grants within the Wesleyan Church.

Residence will be paid a stipend to help care for housing and other needs during the course of their appointed service. The district will partner with the local church on a dollar-to-dollar match, of up to $3,000 annually. The level of the monthly stipend is dependent upon the teaching church you were assigned to. Residency is considered a part-time appointment of twenty hours per week. Residents are strongly encouraged to seek additional supplemental part-time employment.

It is our belief that residents will find this program to be a blessing to the church and community in which they serve and that they in turn will be blessed throughout their ministry from the extended training and experience they receive while serving in this capacity.

  • Apprenticeship

The Florida District of the Wesleyan Church is currently seeking college graduates (of every major) to serve within our church planting network in the North-Tampa Region.

We are seeking young men and women from every area of study and profession who have a heart to see Christ transform a community by the power of his Holy Spirit working in and through young people in their various walks of life joining together to spread the Gospel across a city.

We are actively engaged in planting churches in Tampa, FL with a desire to see the entire region saturated with the Hope and Redemption that Christ can offer, and we want you to pray about joining us in a two year intensive apprenticeship.

As you approach graduation in your area of study, you would apply to The Florida District office for our apprenticeship program. We would team you up with a church planter in our North Tampa network who you could work alongside of as you seek to spread the gospel in the specific target community.

You would continue to pursue employment in your area of training and interest, but essentially would “flip” the process from how it typically occurs.

Rather than seeking a job first, and then “church shopping” for a place to call home… you would seek a church plant to support and engage with to transform a community, and then seek employment within that context.

The Florida District offers assistance with moving and temporary lodging to help you make the transition and get on your feet up to $3,000.
